Sweden has a deep bench of slow, fuzzed-out heavy bands, and Monolord sit at the doom end of it, a Gothenburg trio formed in 2013: Thomas Jäger on guitar and vocals, Mika Häkki on bass, Esben Willems on drums. Five albums set the template, Empress Rising, Vænir, Rust, No Comfort (their first for Relapse) and Your Time to Shine, all built on long songs and the kind of low end you feel in your sternum. Neverending changed the setting rather than the formula. They made it in Ashland, Oregon, with producer Sylvia Massy, and Relapse released it in May 2026 with "You Bastard" as the lead single.
