Spacey Jane's name is basically an accident — the band, formed in Fremantle in 2016, named itself in a hurry after drummer Kieran Lama's housemate Jane, and played its first show in singer Caleb Harper's dad's backyard to a crowd of around 300 people before they'd worked out how to book an actual venue.

"Feeding the Family," the platinum-certified single off their 2017 debut EP, got the sonic evolution started, but Sunlight, their 2020 debut album, is where it landed — "Booster Seat" won the ARIA Award for Song of the Year and went 7x platinum, part of a No. 2 ARIA chart debut that turned a backyard show into a real national band inside four years.
