A Light That Waits came out March 13, 2026, and it stacked up firsts for The Fray: their first full-length since Helios in 2014, their first since singer Isaac Slade left in 2022, and the first album Joe King, Dave Welsh and Ben Wysocki wrote together from scratch as a trio. Those sessions happened in Wysocki's Denver studio, and the title track came out of the very first one. King, who had been the band's guitarist and other voice for years, sings lead now.
Denver is where it all began, back in the early 2000s. How to Save a Life, the 2005 debut, went multi-platinum on two top-10 pop hits, "Over My Head (Cable Car)" and the title song, and the self-titled follow-up added "You Found Me" and "Never Say Never." The new record is credited to all three members, and the way King describes it, they mostly wrote in a room together and let ideas run. Wysocki is blunt about the division of labor anyway. Joe, he says, is the lyricist of the three.
"My Heart's a Crowded Room," "Emerald" and "Songs I'd Rather Not Sing" went out ahead of the album, which was produced by Jason Suwito, Ryan Linvill and the band. Then came the Summer of Light Tour, from Moncton, New Brunswick in May to Chicago at the end of August, with Dashboard Confessional and Colony House opening select dates. At Stagecoach they're one of the rock acts on a bill that also brings Journey and Matchbox Twenty.
