Chris Lake headlining Elements' Earth stage makes sense mostly because of timing — nearly two decades into a house music career, he's arguably at the peak of his relevance right now, not coasting on a 2006 breakout. That breakout was “Changes,” with Laura V, the record that first put his name on festival posters, but it took the 2010s and a relocation to Los Angeles for him to become the kind of act who can anchor a mainstage.
He grew up in Norwich, about as far from a UK club capital as you can get, which by his own account is part of why his ear developed the way it did — no scene to copy, just record shops and late-night radio. “Turn Off the Lights” and “Delirious (Boneless)” came out of that same restless curiosity years later, tracks built for festival crowds specifically rather than club nights.
In 2017 he founded Black Book Records with Ian Massoth, and the label has become as much a part of his identity as his own production work — it's put out music from house veterans like Green Velvet and Armand Van Helden, and helped launch newer names including Cloonee and Mochakk.
