Ivy Lab started in 2012 as a trio — Sabre, Stray, and Halogenix — sharing a studio thick enough with actual ivy that the plant gave the group its name along with the "lab" itself.
Oblique, their 2012 debut single on Critical Music, helped kick off halftime, a slowed-down strain of drum and bass they're credited as pioneering, and 2020, the clubnight they launched in 2014, grew from a single London night into its own label and touring collective built around that same sound.
After 13 years as a group, they announced in 2025 that they were winding the project down — not quietly, by their own description, but with a final run of shows and releases closing out more than a decade spent building a subgenre almost from scratch.
