SVDDEN DEATH spent years bouncing between genres and a different alias before landing on the sound he's known for now — Daniel Howland played guitar and bass in metal, indie, and jazz bands growing up in San Jose, then produced electro house, hip-hop, and big room under a previous name once he moved to LA, treating each phase as a way of working out what actually fit.
Dubstep is where it stuck. His 2017 debut EP, Spelljam, arrived on Never Say Die's Black Label imprint, and “Sell Out,” a 2019 collaboration with Marshmello, cracked Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic chart.
The VOYD character — a horned, flying deity he introduced across VOYD Vol. I and its 2019 follow-up — has become as central to his identity as the productions themselves, a persona built specifically for a sound that took years of genre-switching to find.
