Ray Volpe started producing at 12, years before dubstep's brostep era that shaped his sound had even fully crystallized, growing up in Charlotte on a diet of emo and punk rock that still shows up in how melodic his drops are compared to most of his dubstep peers. He'd released on OWSLA, Never Say Die, and Subsidia before signing to Disciple, the genre's most recognizable imprint.
“Laserbeam,” out in 2022, ended the year as both the most-played dubstep track on 1001tracklists and the most-purchased on Beatport — a rare double crown — and helped him win Best New Artist at the 2023 Electronic Dance Music Awards. “SONG REQUEST” went viral on TikTok after that, and the VOLPEVERSE audio-visual show he headlined in 2025 sold out in advance, evidence the melodic side of dubstep can carry its own headline production now.
