A-Trak won the DMC World DJ Championship at 15, the youngest person and first Canadian ever to do it, and went on to win all three major turntablist championships plus five total world titles before he turned 18.
That dominant run ended by choice — he retired from battling entirely at 18 to focus on his own music, founding the Montreal label Audio Research with his brother a few years earlier and the Allies DJ collective with DJ Craze not long after.
Kanye West hired him as his personal touring DJ soon after, which led to work on Late Registration, and in 2007 A-Trak co-founded Fool's Gold Records, a label that's since launched Kid Cudi and Danny Brown. He's also half of Duck Sauce with Armand Van Helden, the duo behind the Grammy-nominated “Barbara Streisand” — a turntablist's résumé that somehow also includes a novelty house hit.
