5 Seconds of Summer started the way a lot of 2011 bands did — four Sydney teenagers, Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin, posting cover songs on YouTube before they'd played an actual venue. The band that pulled them out of their bedrooms was One Direction, who took them on the Take Me Home Tour as support and effectively handed them an arena audience before they'd built one themselves.
They've since sold more than 10 million albums and topped the Billboard 200 with each of their first three records, which is a rare thing for a band that started as internet strangers covering other people's songs. Youngblood, in 2018, marked the real pivot away from pop-punk toward dance-pop, and the band has kept drifting in that direction since.
Everyone's a Star!, out in November 2025, is their sixth album and first for Republic Records — new label, fifteen years into the band's existence, which says something about how long they've kept this going. The Everyone's a Star! World Tour follows in 2026.
