(G)I-DLE's whole identity runs against the standard K-pop production model — Soyeon writes and produces most of the group's songs herself, with members Minnie and Yuqi also credited as writers and producers on multiple tracks, which is unusual for a girl group not backed by one of Korea's "big three" labels.
It hasn't held them back. 'Dumdi Dumdi' in 2020 became the second best-selling single album by a girl group ever, and 'Tomboy,' from I Never Die, spent more than two months at No. 1 on Korea's Circle chart.
'Queencard' turned into the biggest moment yet — a viral hit that won 13 separate first-place trophies on Korean music shows and gave the group its first outright grand slam. In May 2025, on their seventh anniversary, the group rebranded from (G)I-DLE to i-dle, having weathered a lineup change in 2021 when original member Soojin departed.
