Inji — İnci Gürün — trained classically from age seven at the Istanbul University State Conservatory, then studied at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania rather than a music program, which is an unusual path into pop stardom.

Her family runs a tugboat shipyard in Turkey; both her father and grandfather are guitarists on the side.

'Gaslight,' her first single, was made in about a week with a fellow Penn student, Alex Graf, off a beat he'd built in his dorm room — it went viral on TikTok in 2022 alongside 'Madeline,' and LFG, her debut EP, followed in 2023. A business-school student turned viral pop artist almost by accident, using a classmate's dorm-room beat instead of a formal studio.
