Notion — Rob Penny — started as a drum and bass DJ in Bristol but didn't release anything for two years, by his own account, because his early production simply wasn't good enough yet.
He moved to the city in his late teens, not long after his first EP, Digits, came out on Formula Records in 2012, and has since worked across UKG, bassline, jungle, and drum and bass.
He founded his own label, N Music, in 2017, but a 2026 remix is what actually broke him wide — it hit No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart, passed 500 million Spotify streams, and landed him a Mixmag cover and a BRIT Award nomination for Song of the Year, a huge leap for someone who spent his first two years as an artist not releasing anything at all.
