Paris Paloma Phillips grew up in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, and was already writing songs at 14, years before she studied Fine Art and History of Art at Goldsmiths, University of London.
She released her debut single, "Narcissus," in 2020 out of her own bedroom, and cemeteries and socials, the EP that followed a year later, built slowly enough that "The Fruits" — a blunt, biblically-framed dissection of a relationship — is what actually got Nettwerk Records to sign her in 2022.
"Labour," the 2023 single that followed, is the one that turned her into a genuine cultural moment: it caught on TikTok first, then crossed onto the Billboard charts and past 100 million Spotify streams as an anthem about the unpaid domestic and emotional work expected of women. Cacophony, her 2024 debut album, spreads that same feminine rage across 15 tracks structured loosely around a hero's journey — anxiety, OCD, and trauma treated as the raw material of the record rather than a footnote to it.
