Catherine Grace Garner grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri, and moved to LA specifically chasing a pop-star career, releasing her earliest work independently on SoundCloud under the name Slayyyter before any label was involved — her 2019 self-titled mixtape still hit No. 4 on the US iTunes Pop chart on the strength of that DIY buzz alone.
Troubled Paradise, her 2021 debut album for Fader Label, stripped some of the outright cynicism out of hyperpop in favor of real pop songcraft, and she's kept moving since: Starfucker, a darker synthwave-and-industrial turn, arrived in 2023, and after signing to Columbia Records in 2025 she released WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA that following March — three albums in five years, each one a deliberately different version of pop stardom rather than a repeat of the last.
