The Story So Far started as Walnut Creek, California middle-schoolers jamming together, and they borrowed their name straight from a New Found Glory song before they'd written one of their own — Will Levy joined on guitar in 2010 when the original player left for college, rounding out the lineup that actually recorded their debut.
Under Soil and Dirt, that 2011 debut, became an instant cult classic and later landed on Rock Sound's list of the genre's 51 most essential albums, blending pop-punk with post-hardcore's harder edges and classic emo's wistfulness; Proper Dose, their more indie-leaning 2018 record, is what finally pushed them onto the Billboard charts, a slower build than the "overnight" tag usually implies.
