Loathe's two core members, Kadeem France and Erik Bickerstaffe, had already been making music together for two or three years in a Liverpool band called Our Imbalance before renaming the project Loathe in 2014 — the actual songwriting partnership predates the name people know now.
Their sound folds shoegaze and industrial textures into a metalcore and nu-metal base, evident across The Cold Sun (2017) and I Let It In and It Took Everything (2020).
The Things They Believe, their 2021 third album, went all the way ambient, a genuine outlier in a catalog that already resisted staying in one lane.
