Mother Mother started in 2005 as Ryan Guldemond, his sister Molly, and a college friend, and had to change their name for legal reasons after their independently released 2006 debut caught Last Gang Records' attention.
'Hayloft,' a 2008 song off their second album, flopped completely on release — it took TikTok discovering it twelve years later to turn it into an actual hit.
The band's lineup has shifted since (Debra-Jean Creelman left, Jasmin Parkin joined in 2009), but the Guldemond siblings remain the core, and 'The Stand,' off 2011's Eureka, is the closest thing to a proper follow-up hit before Hayloft's delayed viral moment eclipsed everything else in the catalog.
