Evan White was running a hedge fund's operations — eventually as co-founder and COO of one he helped start in 2021 — while releasing music on the side as Vandelux, a name he built from three cities that shaped him: Vancouver, Deland, Florida, and Luxembourg.
"Matter of Time," his breakout single, hit No. 31 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart in 2021 without him having quit finance yet; it was the full houses on his first headlining tour dates in 2023 that finally convinced him the music side could actually be the whole career.
Closer, his 2025 album, includes "Swimming in the Dark," a track built around a recording of his newborn daughter's heartbeat — a fairly direct way of marking how much has changed since a hedge-fund COO started making breakbeat tracks on the side just because he wanted to.
