Jacob Slater left home at 17 for London, and his first real band, Dead Pretties, burned out fast — three singles, a genuinely chaotic live reputation that grew out of the same Brixton Windmill scene as Shame and Goat Girl, and a breakup by 2017 after just a few years together.
Wunderhorse started in 2020 as a Slater solo project before becoming a full band a year later with Harry Fowler, Pete Woodin, and Jamie Staples.
Cub, their 2023 debut, and Midas, the follow-up that came after it, both drew serious critical acclaim and constant Nirvana comparisons — a much steadier second act than the short, combustible one that came before it.
