Screen composers don't usually land on metal festival posters. Their music lives under dialogue, or behind a controller, and the people who know every note often couldn't name who wrote it. Bear McCreary is an exception partly because the work is so recognizable: Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, Outlander, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and the God of War games, with an Emmy for his Da Vinci's Demons theme along the way.
The other reason is that he went and made rock records. The Singularity, in 2024, was a hard rock concept album that came with a graphic novel and a live show, and guests including Serj Tankian and Corey Taylor. A sequel, The Singularity: Ekleipsis, was set for July 31, 2026 on Sparks & Shadows, with Patrick Stump and Meshuggah's Jens Kidman among the guests, followed by a September run of West Coast club dates from Portland to Las Vegas.
