Skid Row came out of New Jersey and had the late-'80s hard rock market cornered fast: the 1989 debut carried "18 and Life" and "Youth Gone Wild," and 1991's Slave to the Grind reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The singer question has followed them around ever since. The Gang's All Here, in October 2022, was their first studio album in 16 years and the debut of Swedish vocalist Erik Grönwall, and it lasted about a year and a half; he left in March 2024 over health problems tied to his leukemia, and Halestorm's Lzzy Hale covered several dates.

After that, more than two years with no shows. Bassist Rachel Bolan, guitarists Dave "Snake" Sabo and Scotti Hill and drummer Rob Hammersmith opened the search to the public in early 2026, and that October named Justin Sargent: New Jersey-born, a Broadway singer whose credits include Rock of Ages, Bonnie and Clyde and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Rock of Ages, for anyone counting, is a musical built from exactly the kind of songs Skid Row used to put on the radio. The comeback route runs mostly through casinos in March and April, then Welcome to Rockville on May 9 and Sonic Temple on May 14.
