"Judas Mind" came first. The lead single from The Surface Seems So Far went to No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, Seether's tenth, ahead of the album's September 20, 2024 release. It's an angry record, and Shaun Morgan has been plain about why. He wrote it over about 18 months around the pandemic. His third child was born in that stretch, he'd been told his livelihood wasn't important, and he thought about quitting more than once. Rage was the strongest thing he felt, he told Billboard, "and that leads to heavier music, obviously."
This is familiar ground for them. The band started in South Africa as Saron Gas before becoming Seether, and Morgan has always drawn on grunge and hard rock. By Billboard's count they had 26 top 10s across its rock charts by 2024, and in 2011 they were Billboard's No. 1 Active Rock artist, with "Country Song" the top Active Rock song of the year. By the band's own account, they also ran Rise Above Fest for nearly ten years, an annual show raising awareness of suicide prevention and mental illness.
In April 2026 came Beneath the Surface, an EP built on two unreleased songs from the album sessions, "Into the Ground" and "Proud Daddy," plus SiriusXM Octane live takes of "Lost All Control" and "Judas Mind." The band's tour page lists North American arena dates running through April 16, 2027 in Cleveland, then Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach eight days before Columbus.
