Mid-2000s post-hardcore had plenty of bands screaming over two guitars. Circa Survive went somewhere stranger, with a lot of reverb, a lot of space, and Anthony Green's high voice running over the top of it all. Green, fresh out of Saosin, started the band in Philadelphia in 2004 with guitarist Colin Frangicetto. Saosin, as it happens, is also on this year's Sonic Temple lineup.

The records came steadily: Juturna in 2005, On Letting Go in 2007, then Blue Sky Noise in 2010 on Atlantic. They kept going through two decades and several labels, ending up on Rise Records for 2022's Two Dreams, which collected the EPs A Dream About Love and A Dream About Death.

That was also the year it fell apart. A tour marking ten years of Blue Sky Noise had already been pushed back by the pandemic, and in February 2022 it was canceled again because of what the band called Green's mental health crisis. That October they announced an "indefinite hiatus." In late 2025 Green said on the HardLore podcast that it was really a breakup, and that his relapse right before that tour was what ended it.

Then came 2026. Louder Than Life put a Circa Survive reunion set on its September 19 lineup, and the band added a hometown show at the Fillmore in Philadelphia for September 15, which grew into a string of hometown shows. Sonic Temple is billing the band's Thursday set as its exclusive Ohio reunion show.
