Dirty Honey did it backwards: "When I'm Gone" went to No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs chart while the band still had no label, the first time an unsigned act had managed it. Billboard later pointed out how few streams the song had at the time it topped the chart, a sign of how much of the work rock radio did on its own. The self-titled debut album followed in 2021 and Can't Find the Brakes in 2023, and along the way they opened for Guns N' Roses and The Black Crowes.
They're a trio now, listed on their own site as Marc LaBelle on vocals, John Notto on guitar and Justin Smolian on bass. Album three, Catch My Butterfly, was produced by John Feldmann and is set for January 15, 2027, introduced by the singles "Lights Out" and "Butterfly." A re-recorded "When I'm Gone" also turned up in A Minecraft Movie in 2025.
