Getting people to show up to rehearsal was the hard part at first. Imminence formed in 2009 in Trelleborg, a town in southern Sweden where, as guitarist Harald Barrett told Kerrang!, it's extraordinary that heavy music found its way in at all. Singer Eddie Berg worked part-time for years to keep the band going. His violin became the thing people remember, and he's careful about it: he told Kerrang! it's a way to express himself "in a way where maybe I can't with words," and they don't force it into songs where it doesn't belong. Turn the Light On (2019) gave them streaming hits in "Infectious" and "Erase," Heaven in Hiding followed in 2021, and The Black in 2024 changed the scale of everything. Before it came out, their London headline show was at the 600-capacity Garage. By 2025 it was the Roundhouse, and O2 Academy Brixton is booked for January 2027.
After an expanded The Return of The Black in 2025, the band signed with Sumerian Records, home of Bad Omens and Poppy. "The Sword That Never Bends" was the first single for the new label, with a medieval video the band framed as the start of a larger story. That story became Axis Mundi, released October 2, 2026, their sixth album, with a hired scriptwriter, Juan Felipe Zuleta, helping build the narrative around lyrics about living with purpose. A North American headline run with Dying Wish and Gaerea was booked for November and December 2026.
