One of metalcore's big crossover stories of the mid-2000s came out of the Tooth & Nail orbit, and Underoath sat at the center of it. They're Only Chasing Safety in 2004 and Define the Great Line in 2006 both went gold, which almost never happened for a screaming band on Tooth & Nail's Solid State imprint.

What made them stand out was the push and pull between Spencer Chamberlain's screams and big melodic hooks, with electronic textures filling in behind.

After a split, the band returned in 2015 with Aaron Gillespie in the lineup again. Erase Me followed in 2018, then Voyeurist in 2022, then The Place After This One, which MNRK Heavy released on March 28, 2025. Their label described it as a mix of hard rock, electronic experimentation, guttural screams and anthemic, call-to-arms choruses.

Even so, 2026 was mostly about looking back. Underoath spent the summer on a club run built around Vans Warped Tour dates, then announced a fall North American tour marking 20 years of Define the Great Line, with August Burns Red and Atreyu on the bill. "It gave us permission to be ourselves," the band's Chris Dudley said of that album. "It will outlive us."
