Feel the Steel, the 2009 major-label debut on Universal, is where the joke went national, but Steel Panther had been running it for years before that as Metal Skool, a Sunset Strip covers act doing '80s hair metal with a straight face and a filthy mouth. They took the current name in 2008, and the spandex, the hairspray and the dirtier-than-the-originals lyrics all came along with it. Bassist Lexxi Foxx left in 2021, and the quartet now listed on the band's own site is Michael Starr, Satchel, Spyder and Stix Zadinia.
