In 2015, Skrillex played "Street" during his headlining set at Ultra Music Festival, and that was more or less the start of NGHTMRE. Diplo signed it to Mad Decent soon after. Tyler Marenyi, the producer behind it, had finished a finance degree and then spent nine months at Icon Collective in Los Angeles, because, as he tells it, his songs were well written but sounded quieter and weaker than a Skrillex record played right after them.
Icon is also where he met Derek Andersen of SLANDER. They sat next to each other on Derek's second day and spent the course swapping tips. The friendship turned into the 2015 track "Gud Vibrations," then tours under that name, then a label: Gud Vibrations launched in 2018 with the Texas trio WAVEDASH as its first signing.
He calls what he makes bass music in the wide sense, meaning trap, dubstep and bass house, with a long-running habit of crossing into hip-hop, A$AP Ferg included. The debut album, DRMVRSE, arrived in September 2022 as a concept record about a neurotech company discovering a sonic frequency called "Unsound," with Zeds Dead, Virtual Riot and Oliver Tree among the guests.
MINDFULL followed in August 2025 on Gud Vibrations after more than two years of work, 14 tracks about living with constant tech distraction. Flowdan, A$AP Ferg and IRAH all appear, and so does Crankdat, one half of this lineup's WANKDAT, on "TYPE SH*T" alongside Duke Deuce.
