The Golden Pony started as a full five-piece electro-rock band in Brooklyn before Timothy Monkiewicz whittled it down first to a duo and then, around 2021, to just himself.
Golden Classics, the 2017 bootleg remix series that actually broke the project, took house production to songs nobody expected it on — the Grateful Dead's "Casey Jones," Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" — and racked up five No. 1 Hypemachine hits and more than 40 million streams in the process.
Official remixes for Sony, Atlantic, and RCA followed, along with a residency at BangOn! NYC, the production company Monkiewicz co-founded, and support slots for Ben Böhmer, Claptone, and Louis The Child — a band-turned-duo-turned-solo act that's actually gotten bigger with each reduction.
