Acraze made “Do It To It” in about an hour, on a whim, after watching an Instagram story where a friend's car stereo glitched and skipped while playing Cherish's 2006 R&B hit — Charlie Duncker pitched the vocals down, added drums, and had a rough house edit finished before he'd really thought about it.
He debuted it at a New Year's Eve party going into 2021, and the song went on to rack up more than 12 billion streams and win iHeartRadio's Dance Song of the Year — a wildly disproportionate outcome for something built in an hour on a whim.
He's kept working since — “Believe,” “Take Me Away,” a remix of Sam Smith and Kim Petras' “Unholy” — without ever quite repeating that specific accident, and has played Ultra and Tomorrowland on the strength of it.
