'That's So True,' the song Audrey Hobert co-wrote for Gracie Abrams that spent eight weeks at No. 1 in the UK, came before she'd released a single note of her own music — she was a Nickelodeon staff writer at the time, one credit into what looked like a TV-writing career her father had also built. Who's the Clown?, her actual debut album, didn't arrive until August 2025.
It's a strange sound for someone coming out of sitcom writers' rooms: sharp, diaristic pop that mixes synth-pop and dance-punk with outright hyperpop noise, built around the same instinct for a good punchline that made her useful in a writers' room in the first place. 'Sue Me' and 'Bowling Alley' set it up; 'Thirst Trap' closed it out.
