Momma's two core songwriters, Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten, met at Viewpoint School in Calabasas and formed the band in 2015.
Interloper, their independently released 2018 debut, and Two of Me, the 2020 follow-up, built slowly toward Household Name, their 2022 Polyvinyl debut, which is where '90s-indebted alt-rock turned into an actual commercial lane for them.
Their sound draws directly from Pavement, the Breeders, and Smashing Pumpkins — heavy riffs and moody vocals filtered through genuine pop instincts — and Household Name is the record where critics started treating them as the genre's next real thing rather than a promising indie act.
