Goldie Boutilier was born Kristin Kathleen Boutilier in Nova Scotia and moved to Los Angeles at 20, where OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder discovered her and got her signed to Interscope under the alias My Name Is Kay — a major-label deal, complete with features alongside Tiësto and Steve Aoki, that came together fast for someone barely out of Cape Breton.
It didn't last: she left Universal in 2015, relocated to Paris to DJ under yet another name, Goldilox, and only settled into the identity she performs under now, Goldie Boutilier, in 2020 — EPs like Cowboy Gangster Politician and Emerald Year trade the earlier pop sound for alt-country and 1950s-and-60s American music, a genuinely different artist built out of the same person who once chased a Tiësto feature.
