Sleepless Empire, Lacuna Coil's tenth album, came out on Century Media on February 14, 2025. The band described it as capturing "the chaos of a generation trapped in a digital world," and it keeps the setup they've used for decades: Cristina Scabbia's clean voice against Andrea Ferro's rougher one, over downtuned, gothic-leaning metal.
Ferro started the band in Milan in 1994 with bassist Marco Coti Zelati, first as Sleep of Right and then as Ethereal; Scabbia came in to sing backing vocals and stayed. America found them late. Comalies, the 2002 album with "Heaven's a Lie," was the breakthrough here, and Karmacode debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard 200 in 2006, the summer they played Ozzfest's main stage. Their best U.S. chart showing is still No. 15, for Dark Adrenaline in 2012, with Shallow Life right behind it at No. 16 in 2009.
