Shadows Fall's first new music in more than a decade, "In the Grey," arrived in December 2024 along with a deal at MNRK Heavy and the classic lineup intact: Brian Fair singing, Jonathan Donais and Matt Bachand on guitars, Paul Romanko on bass, Jason Bittner on drums. Fair said they didn't know the reunion rehearsals would lead to new songs, but "all of the riffs that Jon had floating around in his head" settled it fast. "Souls Devoured" followed in 2025, and by the end of July 2026 Donais was saying the album was done. The reunion has leaned on anniversaries as well, a December 2024 show in Worcester for 20 years of The War Within and a 30th-anniversary hometown show in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 2026 with Unearth and Within The Ruins. Both of their Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance came out of that mid-2000s run, for "What Drives the Weak" at the 48th awards and "Redemption" at the 50th, when MNRK says they were at the forefront of the New Wave of American Metal.
