Mersiv started as a way of grieving — Anderson Gallegos turned deeper into production after losing his mother to cancer in 2012, since she was the one who'd introduced him to music in the first place, and the “Pretty Dark Loud” style he eventually built is inseparable from that origin. He grew up in Louisiana, where there was essentially no electronic scene to plug into, so he built his own by throwing parties in barns and experimenting there before anyone was paying attention.
He moved to Colorado with $500 and nothing else, and the Mersiv Sound Project's real breakthrough came at Electric Forest in 2018, followed a year later by the Digital Eden EP and the WAKAAN-released single “Beautiful & Filthy” that actually broke him wider. He now also curates MorFlo Records, a label built around the same instinct that got him started — no scene, so build one.
