Cayhan Movaghari failed at every instrument he tried as a kid and gave up on making music entirely — he was strictly an audience member until a friend, Derek Attardi, offered him an opening slot for a Slushii show in 2019 and gave him a few weeks' notice to learn how to DJ from YouTube tutorials. That crash course is the entire origin of 9B49 (pronounced "Nine Before Nine"), and his production debut, "Y.O.U.," came with help from another childhood friend, Connor Sweeney, on the independent label Realty Records.
Pulling from Daft Punk, Porter Robinson, and Dr. Dre in roughly equal measure, he's since played Project Glow, Echostage, and Elements Festival alongside Tiësto, Deadmau5, and Marshmello — a DJ whose entire skill set started from zero, on a two-week deadline, at a friend's request.
